I'm also thinking of trying another tube in my K2, but I'm a little concerned that the manual warns against it - it says that the stock tube has been selected to have very low noise and it's unlikely I can find one with similarly low noise characteristics... Can anyone comment on that?

swapped mine over to a telefunken - noise was actually less
tube cost £80 - very worth it
smooth and detailed. The bottom end is also tighter

That's my goal, too, except if I buy the first Telefunken around on eBay, I may not be as lucky as you and end up with something with more noise, not less. Them old tubes are not exactly known for consistency, otherwise there wouldn't be a need to test and pair them...

Best tube for rode k2 ?

k2 being dark??? I wish..that's the reason why I changed the tube, because I found it a bit too bright for me...I put a late 60's gold pin mullard on mine and WOW, could not be happier....the tube was unbalance though, but I like how it sounds

I found there is a "wooliness" in the lower mids with the standard tube, but the mic definitely boosts the highs in the 8-10k range. I just switched out the tube for an Amperex Bugle Boy 6922 this week and the mids seem clearer and silkier. The high peaks are still there, but can be tamed with a deessser. I do want to try the mullard NOS though...

Anyone else have sibilance issues with this mic? I love the tone and detail the K2 gives me, but I always find myself really struggling with sibilance.

Upgraded to NOS Mullard from Tubedepot about 6 months ago.

Its still a bright mic, but sibilance problem feels solved. Not to mention just overall improvement thats worthy by itself.

K2 is good microphone, but ANY tube mod will upgrade it into really nice mic
