SDC's for Stage OH's - $600 budget.

I've got TC30's on the way but i worry about using omni's live.
so i'm looking for a pair of Cardioid SDC's for OH. (read: NO OMNIS!)

any recommendations? budget is $600 for a pair. new or used. (other mic's on kit are D112, 57's MD421's)

Peluso CEMC6's?
Beyer MCE 93's?
SE2A's? SE3's?
KSM137's?
AT4041's?

i use the KSM137's a lot for OH's in the studio, but for live with a lot of bleed going on try the Sennheiser e614's

they sound surpisingly good and are surpisingly directional.

Search around for some good online deals, or a dealer you know and you can probably get a pair of AT4041s for $600. Great mics that you'll use a lot in the studio, too. thumbsup

Could you get a pair of 4041's for $600? If not, maybe check out the 3031's which are in your price range. I'm a cheap bastard and kinda like these, the cardoids that is.

The SE3's would be nice. Also a pair of CAD M179 with completely variable patterns would allow you to widen or tighten the field if needed.

I own a pair of AT4041 and they are decent mics for sure.

thanks folks.
i weighed in all your input and read some reviews, and i went with the AT4041's. i figure in the studio i can use them under the snare and under the floor tom. and i'm all about versatility.

8thstreet.com has a pair of AT4041's, two 20ft. mic cables, and a stereo x/y mic bar bundle of sorts for $449 with free ground shipping. and the less i spend on good mic's, the more secure i am letting punk bands spray their crowds with PBR while i record their sweaty asses.

so i came in way under budget and thus ended up grabbing some other piddly stuff i needed (sm57 windscreens, pop filters, etc.)

don't rule out a pair of oktava mk-012's. they sound a lot better than they should for the cost. (make sure you get the russian-made ones, not the chinese, though.)

Go for the Octava's for a large live setting. Peluso's for a smaller setting where high's are problematic. The Octava's are sweet. They don't get enough credit. I used both the other day in a drum overhead shootout in a decent sized studio with Neve Porticos and API preamps the Octava's beat out the Peluso's hands down no question about it with either preamps.....for rock & roll music. It was a no contest situation.....but his studio which was large enough to let the cymbals breath. The Peluso's seemed flatter and the Octava's alot more hyped for drums. Look up 'shootout' and it'll have my comments and Chuck's comments.
