My Neumann is Giving out every now and then

I only noticed yesterday that my Neumann was get some small static. My C414TL-2 used to do that and still does that every now and then. I don't know what that could be. I know your saying it's probably the Mic Pre but then when I switched Mic Pre's it still done it. It's the Mic. So all of a sudden I'm recording and the U87 just gives out and then comes back on in about 7 sec's. HUH??
Please-does anybody know what that's about.

Thanx

Hmmm... When it cuts out, does it pass any signal? I had a similar problem with a collapsed diaphragm on a 47 that after 30 minutes would cut out, and emit a 'air condition's sound. Having it kick in and out just sounds like, I dunno, a short?

My 87 did the same thign for a while, it felt like it wouldn't get any phantom power. You might want to check the connections between the 'head' and the body of the mic. If you unscrew the outer shell, then squeeze those two bars togehter that run along the whole length of the body, the head should come off easy. Check the pins that make the electrical connection.

Hope that helps.

Just don't open the head itself exposing the diaphragm (that sounds dirty). That will void your warranty.
