The only thing I`ll occaisionally track with an EQ is direct keyboard parts if the sound isn`t flexible enough and I want it to be slightly different.

Otherwise I get the sound from the mic and just "fix" it a little with the EQ in the mix if it needs it. I hate the idea of EQing something while tracking and than having to re-EQ while mixing. Too much !

I use API 550A's and 560s daily but that's only because those are the only analog eq's I got! I sure wouldn't mind a 1081 and a pultec but hey I ain't complaining. I use eq quite a bit during tracking because I don't like to have to reimagine or create the whole picture at MIXDOWN. And sometimes a little creative eq can really inspire a performance. To each his own. thumbsup

My Recordings/Credits

Focusrite 215 = good for overheads

Also have Neve 1073 - good for some low end 'welly' on kik & snare if required

Love the Vintage Helios on Toms (if they need help..)

A plethora of different answers. Something tells me you're all right, too. :-)
I love it. Thanks all.

This thread needs a kick in the pants. Lots of new options out there! Anything changed in the past 7 years?

I would love to hear peoples preferences on eq for tracking rock guitar.
