I just picked up a cherry Jupiter 8. The thing sounds massive. Couple of questions. 1) Anyone know where to get a manual, or some notes on how to work the beast? 2) It backs up files with a proprietary audio stream to tape. I'm going to try to back it to a digital file. Anyone done this? Does it work? Care to swap patches? 3) Anyone need a vintage keyboard player for their next record? The thing was not cheap, and I wanna get started on paying it off.-sm

2) I used to dump my juno106 into an S1000 years ago when they were used live. Worked great, and you always had the right juno backups on your S1000 disk. |

2) Dumping to computer is fast and easy. Shouldn't be a problem even with cheap soundcards (some cards roll off the bottom end, but that doesn't seem to affect the frequencies used by the JP-8, MC-4, etc) If you need MIDI, I'd recommend an Encore MIDI kit. You can dump/save patches via sysex, it adds more memory and some nice features, plus of course MIDI. The kit is about $300 shipped in the US and takes 1 to 2 hours to insatll, depending on your JP-8 and your soldering skills. | |

oldgearguy Thanks for the info. I found a PDF file at synthzone that I'm downloading as we speak. The thing really does sound huge. On the solo leads, with all of the oscillators spinning, the filters are massive. I think my favorite are the zippering artifacts on some of the slider controls. Very usable. -sm |
