Thread Starter | Pro tools problem - Please help!
Hi guys! Sorry to post this here, but it's driving me nuts and I bet one of you guys can help... I am doing my first serious ITB mix on LE... I am using a bunch of plugins, and I know I need to compensate for their latency. Mostly, I am using waves ren comp and eq. As far as I can tell, the delay reporting at the bottom of the channel strip is incorrect. Here is an example of the problem: I can take a snare track and duplicate it... with no plugins, the tracks sound fine together. When I add ren comp to one of them, I get a delay from that signal. The delay reporting says it is delayed by 64 samples. So I nudge that track 64 samples earlier in time, and I still hear phasing between the two. Am I missing something here? It's making me insane - please help! My setup is mac dual 2ghz g5, 1 gb ram, PTLE 6.9.2, 002r I am having this problem with both waves and powered plugins. THANKS! Greg |

It's been a while for me since LE but isn't there a Low Latency Monitoring tab in Operations? Try that. At best, LE is rough for mixing. Good luck.

That reminds me we use to put duplicate plugins. Put the ren compressor on the other track and don't add any gain reduction, then both tracks are laid back the same amount of samples.

What James is refering to is "input"monitoring latency which has nothing to do with your problem.

I wasn't sure on that one.

the sample latency reporting in LE is not fully implemented - record the processed audio and calculate the discrepancy whilst in samples mode.....

hey guys thanks for the replys so far... yeah it's a mixing issue, not a tracking issue, so low latency monitoring doesn't apply. As far a zooming in and aligning by eye, I don't think that applys because it's a real time plugin - it's not showing you the delay visually on the screen... it just outputs audio later. Putting duplicate plugins on each track is an option, but man, that sucks... toolskid... your reply has me interested, though I am not sure I fully understand how to do it... can you explain a bit more? also, how do you know "the sample latency reporting in LE is not fully implemented" is that a known fact? If so, I am so disapointed with PTLE and will have to start telling friends interested in recording to look elsewhere unless they want to spend $10,000 on a tdm system. again, thanks for all your replys! greg |

What you'll find is there is limitations in the "LE" software of the world. It is cheeper for a reason. I am sure a lot has been written about "mixing in the box" with PTLE too. I don't like mixing in the box at all. It never sounds right to me. -gary |

make sure there both coming out the same output...not one buss...the other l/r...etc.........sometimes even when you eye ball theres a delay.....processing the 2nd snare will give you a delay...ie....if you recorded it from one track to another with a plug on the original...to save horsepower..... tim |
