Thread Starter | PLEASE HELP choosing a mic hi all i need to choose a mic to record vocals and once again i can't try the mic first i have to do my best guess so here it goes. my singer is very similiar to brandon boyd from incubus and these are the choice of mics that i can get so please any suggestions will be good neumann km 56 neumann u87 neumann u89 akg c414 neumann u 67 neumann u47 fet calrec soundfield what is the best do you all think cheers |

| 1: U47 for the nice mids and the balls you might want for rock vocals 2: U67 if your singer could need a deesser (this mic realy shines on some singers, if it doesn't... it doesn't) 3: U87 will give you a workable track I wouldn't go for the C414 (there are are a lot of version btw), unless it is a old silver body one (C414eb and earlier) whit the original CK12 (brass ring). I can't say much about the Soundfield. The KM56 is a very good SDC but I think I would rather put it on ac.git or drum OHs... But than again there are several US hit records done with SDC Neumanns... U89 is not my thing...

| Can't remember exactly where I read it but Brandon uses a Neumann KMS 105 and sings in the control room using the monitors instead of headphones. Just though I would point that out, don't know if that helps, cheers!

Thread Starter | hi thanks to those who responded due to the limited amount of mics available i think it will have to be the u47 cheers and i will do a post detailing the struggle that is recording our album cheers |
