How about making MP3 lossless?

Regardless of how much HD space we have or how fast internet connections get, people are always going to associate music with MP3 since it's what they're used to. Because of this, I don't think current lossless formats such as FLAC will catch on. So I had a thought today, why can't a new form of MP3 compression be made, that is lossless?

The nature of mp3 means it fundamentally cannot be lossless. Flac is your best bet I guess.

Give me raw every time please

Yes, I'm aware of FLAC as I mentioned it in the first post. My point is that most people are accustomed to "MP3". FLAC will never truly catch on. With todays resources why should MP3 continue to be a form of lossy compression?

In other words, make a loss-less format that is standard, and call it "MP3" because of popular name-recognition associated with that term. But if a company or companies made a loss-less format that was standard (such as FLAC), if it was truly the standard then it would basically be the only option people would have anyway, so they would simply adjust to the "new" name - like transitioning from 8-tracks to cassettes to CDs. People for the most part didn't continue to refer to CDs as 8-tracks (although the term "album" has stuck - but more as a full length project rather than vinyl media).
