Thread Starter | NEED A CONDENSER WITH FREQUENCE RESPONSE SIMILAR TO SM7b
HELP! I am new to mics and am trying to figure this out trial and error. I have the SM7b. PROS: I think the frequency response is really good for my vocal range / tone CONS: Sounds kinda "blocky?" and not as detailed / wide as I would like. I have the Sterling Audio ST77 (which I wanna get rid of if anyone is interested) CONS: Sounds Thin and DOESN'T respond well to my Vocal Range. PROS: I like the "detail" it seems to have IS THERE A MIC that has More "detail" than the SM7B, but the same frequency response? If my voice seems to respond well to the frequency response of the Sm7b not well to the frequency response of the ST77, what Frequency Response am I looking for with a vocal mic? (SO I KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR) Thanks for your help. - Scott |

It depends where you have the switches set. If you have the lo-cut switch engaged on the sm7b, which is set pretty high on that mic, you'll have a real hard time getting the same results out of any condenser as most condensers, if they offer a lo-cut switch, are usually set around 75-80hz. So it all depends what you're looking for.

...yes, the KEL HM-2D may be close to what you're looking for...but if you have 2 mic pres, why not try tracking your vocals with both mics simultaneously, and then blending the two tracks to get exactly what you're after...I do this quite often (combining a ribbon or dynamic mic with a condenser for detail and "air") on certain vocalists with very positive results...
