What type of fiberglass is this?

I do not know what kind this is. It's a sample I got from a a/c company. They said I can get a pack of 4 4 foot by 10 foot sheets for about $125. I'm not sure if its a good deal or good fiberglass to use for acoustics. I want to make some panels for the walls and bass traps.

So any help.. Ethan?

That is basicly 703 with an aluminum backing, single thinkness will work the same, double thickness... you will have alot of trouble getting the backing off without destroying the 703.

See if this company has a location near you: http://www.spi-co.com/
They sell all kinds of rigid fiberglass. You can get it without the backing for a decent price. Also, you'll probably want the 6lb board, not the 3lb.

Kurt,

I can't tell for sure without picking it up and feeling it. If you have a piece in hand you can weigh it and calculate the density. 701 weighs 1.5 pounds per cubic foot, 703 is 3 pounds per cubic foot, and 705 (best for bass trapping) is 6 pounds per cubic foot.

BTW you can leave the facing on if you want to pick up a little more low end. The trade off is more of the high end will reflect. Which is not a bad thing if you are looking for that. Most people make the bass traps with the facing staddling all corners then make panels without the facing for the first reflections.. Oh one more thing.. Maked sure the facing is facing the room.. DO NOT put on the back of panels..

This backing is pretty easy to take off. I have no clue what lb/foot rating it is. I'll ask them when I go see about it again. Thanks for all the info!

The insulation with facing is usually called "FRK" or "FSK" and the faced 703 and 705 absorbs a bit more low end, and absorbs a little more evenly across the frequency spectrum.

The price you quoted seems pretty good... I know I paid more than that, but I live in the bay area and we pay more for everything.
