Routing Eleven Rack to MR816x in Cubase

If anyone can help me setup routing in Cubase from my eleven rack to MR816x, it would be great.

Basically, I'm just trying to use the MR816 as the Cubase interface and record a WET+DRY track using the spdif I/O

For whatever reason, I've been able to clock the 11r to the 816 in Pro Tools for tracking, but cannot seem to do this properly in Cubase, my native DAW.

(1) I have changed the MR mixer to accept spdif i/o

(2) Clocking the MR internally and the 11r externally at 24/48

(3) Open a track in Cubase and I get no sound. Playback is fine, but I can't record the spdif signal for some reason.

Any help would be great.

Routing Eleven Rack to MR816x in Cubase

Have you enabled the input jack (S/PDIF) in VST Connections? Perhaps a stupid question but it's often overlooked

Yes I did. So track input is set to "Mono 1" which is routed to the spdif in of the MR.

And no, it's not a stupid question considering I cannot use either interface's GUI within Cubase and I have to open up PT to set the sample rate in the 11r. Makes everything so much harder.

Strange thing is I thought it would be more trouble in PT with the external clocking and what not.

Would be great to figure this out b/c as of now I'm using 11r as the Cubase interface and the MR as the pro tools D/A ....!

I have a MR816X (and I am running Cubase) in my studio at the moment but I'm not sure I have anything S/PDIF'y to test with. Let me have a look later today...
Can you headphone monitor the incoming signal from the MR?

I'm gonna give it a fresh go in the morning - fortunately I actually have some free day time to settle this.

Didn't check the headphone out, but I would assume it's the same as the monitor feed: Playback sound is ok, but can't record an armed spdif track.

Might be a bad spdif cable? I'll try to swap it and check. In the meantime did a little guitar tracking using the 11r as the interface. Not bad, but I'm getting hooked on MR/C5 integration.

Spdif cable is good so that's not it. Must be me

Any Cubase, MR816x, and Eleven Rack/axe/pod users out there?

Ok so I got Cubase to read the input signal of the 11r Spdif I/O.

I did this by setting the 11r "Digital Output" setting to read "Split in-Out". Just on going by the input levels looks like Spdif Left is WET and Spdif Right is DRY.

(!) Now the last problem. Still not getting any output to the monitor. All the other imported tracks are set to the main out stereo bus and play fine. The armed tracks have input meters moving but no output. With direct monitor on and off.

I tried making a 2nd stereo bus to spdif L/R but no dice.

Anyone? I'm sure now that it's a routing setting in cubase or the MR.

Figured it out

OK, I figured it out.

I unchecked direct monitoring and I can hear playback fine. The actual issue was that the 11r will revert to 44.1 even though it's being clocked by the MR816.

If anyone knows how I can keep the 11r clock at 48khz preset, let me know. Otherwise I have to open up PT, check internal clocking, switch the samplerate, check external clock and go back to cubase.

For any people with the same problem as me, use the directions above and this last post. If there's a better alternative, let me know.
