high end 4 channel mixer for tape recorder

I am thinking about buying a tape recorder. I'd like to get a high end mixer and see if i can eliminate relying on the computer for all intensive purposes. Is there such a thing as a high end 4 channel mixer? Would it be more appropriate to get 2 neve portico's or something and get the channels from there? I liked the idea of having eq to do lowpass/highpass etc.

Most of them using laptops for their music nowadays.
Goggle for a small "broadcast-console" that should fit your needs.

Tang, Take a look at Cranesong Spider as an example of a high end mixer. Then think about the phrase "for all intents and purposes" as you learn English! Just trying to help...
