Shaking Through and Weathervane Music

I'm surprised to see that this hasn't been discussed more, especially considering that Gearslutz even got shout outs, pretty sure co-producer UBK is the same dude from here, and several times some of Sahiaman's awesome Wooden/Metal Blondies mics were used.

Shaking Through : Twin Sister

As both an aspiring producer and member of an "indie" band (who's not anymore, right?), I've found this series and the overall concept really inspiring. It's rad to see established pros reaching out a helping hand to rising talent that they themselves enjoy and see potential in, and then get to see that talent rise to the occasion during recording. Also, as someone who never went to school for recording and has never actually stepped foot in a professional studio, it's awesome to see these nerdy gear slutty videos of stuff in action. I generally read about it here or in technical books and Sound on Sound or EQ Mag and then just use my imagination to try and recreate what I've read while recording myself. So seeing it (beautifully filmed) playing out before my eyes was nice. Seems like a great organization to me!

Especially enjoyed the Twin Sister segment. They're a band I love and can definitely relate to stylistically and otherwise, and of course this is the best they've ever sounded! They couldn't hide how dazzled they were by being in an actual studio, and I think I would react the same exact way. I loved the technique of running her vocals through a space echo and amp to capture more natural reverb to layer with the dry take. Good stuff. The track came out real nice.

Anyone have thoughts about this? Love the idea, hate the idea? I'm excited about it because I love seeing pros investing in the future of music by taking some risks like this. Of course it's also good promotion for the studio, but the artists aren't being charged and get to walk away with an awesome product. Nice little stepping stone in the career. Just putting this out there, anyone is welcome to do this for my band if they want to! Just fly my girlfriend and I out to your studio along with our stuff and we'll be happy to knock out a banger!

Hey Dublave!

Thanks for the kind words.... I've always hoped there'd be more discussion on GS about what we're trying to do. So far it hasn't really caught on, I guess. We DO have more techy-nerdy ideas up our sleeve for certain, and I hope the community here will dig all that as we roll it out!

So, as far as the Twin Sister project goes, I will tell you: that band is more inspiring than anything video can ever capture. Super brilliant artists, well beyond their young age! They have amazing collaborative skills, as well. No one in that band has a single bad idea. In fact, I can tell you there were 5 great ideas for every one that made the final cut. (Can you tell they are super-stars in my mind, already?)

Thanks again.... I'm also honored to be called a "pro".

I hope it catches on soon, Brian! Like I said, I think what you guys are doing is really important and personally very inspiring. Can't wait to see what the new techy-nerdy ideas up your sleeves are. Keep up the awesome work!
