Optical/Toslink length advice

Hey guys,
I recently stepped up to an aurora 8 to use with my digi 002r. In order to provide ventilation above and below the aurora, I'd like to move my digi from my rack to a spot under my desk. This would free up some rack space and the digi is really only being used as a big dongle anyway.

My question is about the toslink connection. I'll need to use 9' +/- length toslink cables if I move the digi out of the rack. I just bought some 3' thinking it would be mounted close but it just doesn't make sense to take up valuable rack space with something that's just sitting there.

Will the extra distance of using 9' cables degrade the signal? If a 3' connection will be an improvement I can make it work, however, if there's no difference then I'll have some extra rack space.

Thanks for your advice.

Good news, thanks. I'd rather have my digidongle under my monitor and my usable hardware in my rack!
