I need a hard disk for TASCAM DM-3200

My friend wants to get a TASCAM DM-3200 mixer so he can use it as a control surface and also track to a hard disk.

Right now he has a HD24 with adat i/o and the dm3200 has tdif i/o. tdif to adat converters are kinda pricy. He could almost get another hd24 for the price of the converters. I know the dm3200 has 8ch of adat right now so if I get 2 more adat cards I'll be able to do that? That will be around $400.

So is there any other hard disk under 2,000 or so that has tdif inputs?

Why dont you look around ebay and other places for the if-tad. I picked up one last month for 125. Theres one adat i/o on the back of the tascam. If you got just one if-tad ud be at 16 channels, 2 iftads 24. So i dunno what your budget is like, but normally if you invest in somthing like that you wanna have a lil extra to make sure it works with what you already have!

Buy the ADAT cards. I have the DM24 and that's what I did, and have been very happy.

From all the research I did, I found that it was more stable (at least with the DM24).
Plus everything has ADAT. Any pre's with digital outs and most recorders.
So for 400 you can get the cards, keep using the recorder you know, and have ADAT which will be a lot more compatible with other gear. Rather than 2000 on a new recorder.

Soundscape have a TDIF / ADAT converter that is cheaper than the IF-TAD from Tascam.

The MOTU 2408 series of audio interfaces work as format converters in standalone mode (not connected to the computer). Even the original 2408 was 24 bit through its digital paths. So if you don't need 96k you could pick up a used 2408 cheap, connect it to your DM-3200 via the TDIF ports, and then take the lightpipe out of the 2408. The advantage to this is that you would still have your two expansion slots in the DM-3200 free for other cards.
