Bass Recording Chain on Super Tramp's "Give A Little Bit"????

Hey, slutz. I was just listening to the original version of that song, and let me say, aside of the fact that those guys swing like cats in a tree for pop rock musicians (and I know they were a good deal more sophisticated than just that - no offense rockers - you guys ROCK , I'm just saying I'm not comparing their swing to like Chick or Train), but I digress, the bass and kick drum on that song are really something else. That song really swings, it's funky like a m*th*f*ck*. Anyone know how the bass was recorded - it giives me that warm, fuzzy fellin'

I think they put the new cover version of that song through the new Focusrite MOR plug-in. I could never understand why people who suck do covers - JMHO (ok, maybe he doesn't suck - just THAT VOCAL PERFORMANCE AND RECORDING SUCKS). Sorry for the negative vibe, but that version is about as white bread as it gets. I guess the song's probably old enough now (30 years?), that ST will let him live.

Don't have that info, but I have the bass chain for Breakfast in America (courtesy of SOS July 2005 issue). Hits on that album were "The Logical Song", "Goodbye Stranger", and "Take the Long Way Home."

Dougie Thomson's "brand new" Music Man Stingray bass with flat wound strings, DI'ed (no type listed). Heavy EQ from a Harrison desk - +10 db @ 100 hz, +10 db @ 200 hz. Then through a 1176 (no settings given).

And his fingers.

I know - the fingers ARE 90%. But the details for the other 10% are great to know, as well - you know, just in a RED CARPET, gearslutty kinda way.

Thanks so much for your post.

And that is a great record. My recent band did one cover - the Logical Song - that was so much fun to play, time signature changes, a really nice chord progression - ah, it's a pleasure to hear musicians who know thier (ass) from (elbow). I did a tempo map of that song - it's ALL OVER THE PLACE. Of course in the days before clicks I think it goes from like 108 to like 124 and everything in between
