distant mic companion for my e609

Hi guys; I am looking for a distant mic companion for my sennheiser e609, I like the sound of it but I am starting a new project (HARD rock and some psychedelic) and really want to up the antics from a single mic to at-least a 2 mic setup. So....any suggestions; I have a $350 limit and I am OK with used or new. I just want a mic that will balance really well for distant miking with my e609?

Try finding a nice used ribbon mic. Oktava ML16 usually runs about that on ebay. Those newer Nady or Thomann ones are in that range new, but I have never used them.

You think a ribbon would be the best choice for a distant mic? I have always been concerned about hurting? a ribbon. but if it would sound better it would be worth it!!

If you're concerned about hurting a ribbon mic bring it some candy and some flowers from time to time... make it feel special.

Any mic will usually do for a far mic... from a $5k ____ to a $69- SM-57 you'll be able to get the sound of the room with little struggle. Hopefully it's a good sounding room and worth recording the room tone.

Best of luck with it.

the Avenson Omni is cool on guitar cabs for a room sound .... try it right up on the grill as you'd use a dynamic, or in combination with your mic. they're around $500/pr, and handy for drums too.
