Is The VHT guitar amp for real?

I just came from guitar center, I stumbled onto a dude playing the VHT Pitbull. He handed me the guitar and I nearly had an orgasm! That thing is intense sounding. Was I hearing things or is that amp massive, ala Bogner/Deisel???

It felt so good, I'm looking to dump my triple rectifier and want something to use for drop tuned metal. I'm just not a Mesa guy. Is VHT an option?

A friend of mine used to have one. It was the 45 watt (Pitbull?) with a 1-12 / 2-10 "Mickey Mouse" cab. I thought it was great. Sounded like Vox meets Plexi to me. Probably should have bought it when I had the chance!

Best....H

James,

Check out the Bogner Uberschall as well. They're in N. Hollywood.

Does anyone know about the VHT Deliverance?

The amp I played today at GC I believe was this
http://www.vhtamp.com/products/ultra-lead.html

I'm liking this amp because I'm not looking to drop 3k to 4k on a head.

I had some of my marshall's worked on this past week and bought some new guitars. So the guitar sound I'm getting now is better than ever. Seriously monsterous, but it has me blood thirsty for more........more.........more.......etc...

We used a Pitbull a while back and I dug it at first, then I got into the Rivera Knucklehead II for low tunings. I'm way more into that.

Thanks everyone. I'm going to Truetone Music tomorrow to check out some more amps. The other thing I started doing this past week was placing the mics further out on the edge of the cones of the speakers. Seems warmer.

I spent a weekend trying one of the VHT amps, an older Pitbull, I think. Vry nice sounds, and very flexable, but I could get most of the sounds I liked faster with my old Mk II Boogie.

The new Krank amps are fairly priced and have incredible tone. I was very impressed by the revolution series and will be buying one as soon as I return to the states.

call me weird..I like things in three's.

I still like The boogie..and I even Prefer the triple. Especially for Drop 'D'..the extra wattage for me allows the bottom to come through tighter. Balanced with that amp (for the "other" guitarist, etc) I like the new Marshall TSL100, also a Triple.

The guitarist in my band had a VHT, thank god he sold it!!! what a crappy sounding amp.

He now has an incredible late 60's AC30 and his tone is phenominal. For the money of a VHT you can do alot better imho.

But, if you like the VHT that's cool...

Vht UL sounds way better than the dual recto I had and dsl 100. The Diezel Herbert I had is the one I want back. VHt and Diezel are in the same league, but the Diezel is more versatile and more modern sounding to me and is the best of the bunch. Also is the heaviest amp I have ever owned.

I tracked vocals on a record that was tracked with a Diezel. That thing was insane sounding. I have a bunch of amps, AC30, DSL100, JCM900, Bassman and a Triple Rectifier. The only amp I don't use is the Triple. I bought it to be my new metal sounding amp but it just doesn't usually do it for me. I demoed a Bogner Extacy last year and went to buy it and bailed out at the counter.

The thing is I'm real picking about the distortion on those high gain monster heads. I don't like it to be to fuzzy. Sometimes I hear them and they sound like a kids amp. I want manly TONE! lol Evil...

try a markII C or a 50 caliber for that Chevelle-ish "Nu" sound, seem less flabby in the bottom to me than a recto, bonus points WAY less than the recto too=more $$$$ for other cool shit

I'm looking to sell my Diezel Herbert if anyone's interested... I just don't use it enough... for the type of music I play, nothing beats my blackface '65 Twin.

Pitbull

I have a Pitbull 45. Super amp. Lots of gain in the lead channel and one of the best clean channels ever, especially for recording. I may have to sell it soon....actually I've need to for a while just don't want to part with it.

VHTs are great modern sounding amps.

Tight bass, graphic EQ, parallel FX loop, buttery cleans.....

To me, VHT is what Marshall could have become if they weren't run by penny pinching corporate dweebs.

Mesa Boogie is what Fender could have become....

But they both dropped the ball and went for profits over quality products.

There is no product Marshall or Fender currently make thats worth the $$$$.

Their original designs exceed the current ones, in both build quality and tone.

New companies stepped in to pick up the slack.

You just won't find they're products in Musicians Friend.

I really dig the VHT. For what I do, it's perfect. I love the transients. I tried an Uberschall in Japan and almost shit myself. I plan on going amp shopping in a month or so. The VHT UL and the Uberschall are the front runners. I dont' know much about the Shiva, but I've got a few friends who endorse them and they swear by them. Krank is another possibility. I didn't think I'd like it, but it sounds great in the mix. Not the Dimebag version though. That one is to gainy.

I don't know.... I paid about 4 grand for it, but I'd willing to take around 3 for it, unless you have some killer pre's, compressors, or mics that you'd want to trade for. Let me know if you're seriously interested. I have the matching front-loaded 4x12 to go with it. Later.

I just played:

Bogner Exctacy
Rivera Knucklehead
Diezel Einstien
VHT Pitbull
Soldano Avenger

My favorite was the Soldano. The Bogner sounded soft and too warm next to the Diezel but the Diezel was little too intense and over the top for my taste. The Soldano had a nice balance of warmth like the Bogner and the bright aggressive thing of the Diezel. The Rivera was not even close in my opinion and the VHT had some wierdness in the sound.

The guy who started VHT used to work for Mesa back when they made good amps. As far as I'm concerned any VHT is a great amp. You get solid tone from them...it may not sound special at first, but upon second glance they sound incredible.

My first experience was a Pitbull 45 2x12 combo. I believe they use 4 EL84's in this amp...very reminiscent of a Vox.

My second experience was a Pitbull 50 2x12 combo. EL34 power section with a Class A option. Incredible. I don't understand why these amps don't get more action than they do. Name recognition? Politics?

???

I'm thinking of sellind my Yamaha Soldano T-100 head.

Starting to really show my age and pretty much doing blues these day's and it could use a good home.

I'm pretty sure Mr. Wagner has one at Wireworld.

Just re-tubed and might be just what your lookin for...

awsome heavy tones!!! and a really tight lowend.

If you dont know of this amp it's worth doing a quick search.

Also MkIIc is pretty f'nn strong, the best boogie for sure.

Pm if you want and I'll try and zap you some files of the yammy.

next time,
jfg

James-
You may want to try a mesa mark IV....with a graph or a dc-5. I remember trying a pittbull in nyc about 12 years ago.....nice aggressive power chords ..bad lead tone...bogner is nice but never sold me...to much dough....

Soldano's are badass. I have a Hotrod 100+XL. Without a doubt it is the most punchy, accurate, and responsive amp I have ever played or owned. If you play even slightly sloppy it will sound sloppy. My marshalls are much more forgiving, but the Soldano has the rip your face off sound. lol. Very unique. I won't ever sell mine. I haven't had a single problem with mine in 4 years and it has had a decent amount of road use. I haven't used the Avenger James, but if it was made by Mr. Soldano it can't be half bad

I had a SLO-100 for a little while and I hated it's sound, but YMMV. I do love Warren Haynes sound though so maybe I just didn't set it up right. I do NOT like to play overly loud so that might have been the problem.

Right now I'm using a Soldano X88R preamp into a VHT 50/50 poweramp. Best of both worlds, haha. Though I'm not into the nu-metal thing, I must confess. More of an Aerosmithy-Stones-GaryMoorish thing myself.
