Pro Tools Remote Control

Hello all,

first post for me. How exciting. Helping one of the bands I work for to build a new demo studio. They asked me to set up remote control for pro tools in the live room so that they can control a session from there. The pro tools system itself is in a control room, in a mezzanine floor above.

I have a couple of ideas, just wondering if anyone has any ideas?????

thanks all

Frontier Designs Tranzport

losing its link sometimes, but when it works...VERY COOL. I am recording myself most of the time. It is a dream. Not just start/stop. Record, rewind, and undo. AWESOME toy. I used to give myself a 20 second lead. Live was slow then!

the transport is awesome. also some use a Command 8 or HUI/Mackie Control (the tranzport is essentially a HUI without the faders/encoders), a friend of mine puts a command 8 in the vocal booth and gives talent the option of riding thier own monitor levels!!! good luck- title

If you run Windows and have a spare laptop you can mirror your main computer in real time anywhere on a wireless network - http://www.prorec.com/prorec/article...256DAA000EC101

run a vga split to a second monitor. (or if you have a dual monitor card run the 2 outs mirrored) and then run a second keyboard and mouse. i have that in my room and it works great. why limit your them to just trnsport and more basic command controls when they could have full control and its very cost effective. just make sure they use an lcd in the live room.

they are the kind that crimp onto the ends of the VGA cable to prevent interference...basically keeps the image looking clean.

Most VGA cables come with these already installed. I only mentioned the magnets cause I did some installs with 50' VGA cables that didn't have the magnets, we had to snap them on after the fact, no big deal...they have a fancy name that I cannot remember at the momment.

Remote monitor on long vga cord with Gyration mini rf keyboard (nice and compact!) and Gyroscopic mouse combo (just wave the mouse in the air and it moves the cursor). Consumer version is good for 30ft and costs ~$100. Pro version is good for 100ft and cost ~$250. I have been using these for a few years. A tad finicky but works great.

I also use a MotorMix on a 40ft MIDI tether. Great for monitor mixes and can be had for the $300 to $400 dollar range on ebay.

Good luck!
