Finally finished my amp rack - Marshall 1959HW and friends...

Finally got my recording rack put together.

Now if I could only squeeze a 2x12 cab with some blues in there somewhere......

Wow!

Hey, how are you using the ZVEX booster pedal? Are you getting your MArshall to distort, or are you using pedals to get there?

And how would you decribe the Tim's distortion characteristics?

You can get that type of shelving at most Home Depot type places, also Sam's club type things.

Dig the shelving myself. Found it at the Container Store -- the brand is InterMetro, available in black or chrome. Planning on doing the same thing only with my preamps, compressors etc that are in racked SKB cases or lunchboxes. www.containerstore.com

Greg is an awesome guy. The last studio I worked at had two or three of his amps (from when he was first starting to sell them commercially). Neat, but loud as hell (even against an AC30).

The guy REALLY knows his marshalls better than anyone else I have met. And the prices of the amps are SOOO reasonable.

On the side of things that aren't cheap... I REALLY want a VOXAC30HW amp.

You can find it at Target as well - same stuff, half the price..
I bought a 6-foot, 5-shelf black unit on sale for like 45 bucks... each shelf will hold like 150lbs... strong stuff.

There's no Zvex pedal in there... There's an Axcess buffer, Analogman KOT and a Tim pedal in there among other things, but no Zvex...

As for the Marshall - I crank it most of the time, but it cleans up really well if you back off the guitar volume. The Two Rock cleans are so much better though I try and use it for cleans. The Tim is more of an overdrive pedal. Not so much distortion, but more like your amp - only louder. Like a boost. If you really turn it up it will overdrive very well.

Yeah, the marshall and the Vox are reissues, but they are the hand-wired point-to-point ones, not the PCB reissues. The Marshall is a killer. Really sounds like the vintage plexi I used to have back in the day

Greg Germino Builds some of the coolest boutique Marshall clones you'll ever find. Hell of a smart guy. Very creative and his attention to detail is amazing. He'll build you whatever you want...

The Germino just might be my favorite of all of them. The Marshall is a 100 watter. The Germino is a 50. They are very different. The 100 has got more grit, bite and girth. The 50 will sing a bit more. Ya need 'em both......

Looks nice man

How do you have them all hooked to to one cab?

I didn't spot an amp/cab switching box.

Those HW reissue Vox's are butter.

you can get more gank by getting a short jack and running it from the bottom jack to the top of the next channel and cranking them both. Hiwatts were so clean it was the
way to get them to break up.

I had a Weber 4-HEad switcher but it caught on fire........... I'm not kidding. The fumes that came off that little meltdown damn near gave me black lung!

I'm now using an Ampeg 4 in 4 out switcher. It's very cool. No load in it, just a switch box so it's only good for recording - not live, but that's the way I use it anyway. It's not available to the public, but dealers can get 'em........

That's an Analogman King of Tone. One of the best OD boxes I've run across in a long time.

Here's a pic of one in Brad Whitford's board......

Great stuff..!!! Heard a lot of good things about the Geronimo. Given that you like you 100watt Plexi reissue (and I totally agree on that one) what do you feel the Geronimo gives you that you wouldn't get from say a 50watt reissue Marshall (Plexi or JTM45)..?

Analogman King of tone: Is this a low-gain pedal like the Tim?

Are you using an attenuator in your recording space?

IMO, there is a HUGE difference in tone between the Marshall point-to-point handwired amps and the PCB reissue amps. They don't make a 50 watt handwired p-t-p head yet.

The Germino sounds like an old plexi 50 to my ears...

No, the ANalogman KOT is a mid gain pedal more in the range of an old Tube screamer on steroids

OK - it makes more sense to me now. I'd forgotten about the ptp 1959 and thought it was just a regular reissue. I'm with you now - thank's for clearing that one up..
