Thread Starter | The quality of software instrument plug-ins
Hi! I am definitely owning one of the better keyboards on the market, the Yamaha Tyros keyboard. But I must say it is far behind in sound quality compared to some well sampled virtual instruments. Lately I've done so much progress in recording sound quality in my studio that I'm realising I'm facing a situation when I have to start doing something with the quality of my sound source in order to get the best improvements in sound quality from here. What I'm thinking of is to completely dedicate the Yamaha Tyros keyboard for song writing and MIDI arrrangement production (that might be its optimum role) and use better sounding sound sources. Going that route I don't have to go through my RME Fireface 800 converter either and hopefully I get some sample packages that were sampled onto tape first, so I'm pretty hopeful I will be able to improve the sound quality a lot from here by going that route...! It seems like this is nothing unusual, some keyboardists in Nashville only record with a MIDI keyboard and a laptop... I have to upgrade my computer though, everything in it should be faster and bigger...! My question is, do you have any knowledge and experiences in the quality of virtual instruments and have tried any packages? What brand today stands for the best virtual instrument sound quality on the market? Do you feel that you want to own only 24-bit sampled packages? Thanks |
