New chinese ribbon by Thomann: RM700

I already own Thomann's version of the venerable "Nady Ribbon", the RB500.
Looks like they have just release an entirely new model, the RM700

Looks rather nice.
Is there anyone who had his hands on one of these?

Cheers.

HAHA!

I'm waiting for YOU to try it.

Seriously cuz I know you rate the RB500.

I was gonna ask if you'd seen this already. I think they came out a month or so ago.

Somebody mentioned them earlier... Let me see...

Ah, here it is:RM700

Interesting...

I've got the http://www.goldenagemusic.se/gaproje...project/R2.htm for a while and it's a great mic. I suppose it's the same. Used it for drums and got a really cool sound. vocals, guitars and piano, it's all good.

I want to know more about this one, too. I'm thinking of buying one for voice/acoustic guitar and I'm not sure which one to buy now - this one or the Nady/t.bone/TSM/whatever RB500.

Just wanted to let you guys know that I've received my RM700 in the mean time.
It's a terrific mic - period.
Lovin' it.

A friend of mine who's opinion I respect had the opportunity to compare the RM700 Royer R121's.
He says it's basically the same thing.
The tbones have 2dB less output, but the tone is there.

I have nothing to do with Thomann or chinese mic manufacturors - just digging the RM700. Period.

My 2 cents.

He doesn't have an RB500 in his studio.

But I do.
The RB500 has a more colored (phasey if you want to be mean) top end, due to the resonators creating a HF boost.
By consequence, the RM700 sounds a bit duller, but smoother and more balanced.

I think I'll end up using the RB500 for vocals and the RM500 for drum stuff and guitar cabs.

I was really asking as I own both the RB500s and a couple of Royer R122s (+using the R121s daily) and I just couldn't put the RB500s even approaching the same league as the Royers. I find the RB500s SUPER coloured and poor on transients, with a very very thick almost compressed sound - they have a quite spectacular lack of detail compared to the more high end ribbons I own and use (royer/aea/STC)!!! I will try to check out the 700s but they would have to be in a completely different league to the RB500s to be favourably compared to the Royers! I dig the RB500s for funky fx mics or honky mushy drum rooms etc.., but the R122s are (to borrow e-cue's phrase) "like ears", I find the R121s (with complementary loading) to be in a similar league to the R-122s!! Anyhow, don't really want to rant too much, but I thought I should put my oar in!!

All the best anyhow!!!
