Thread Starter | New Sound Card Suggestions Hi there, thinking about getting a new sound card and wanted to see what you guys would suggest. I'm looking at the EMU 0404 or 1212M PCIe units, as well, some cheaper RME and Lynx PCIe cards. Right now, I am pretty much just using softsynths and in the event I do need to record bass, guitar, vocals, etc... I don't see I'll need more than two channels. Also going to be using outboard pres and AD/DA converters when I do start recording more of these instruments. Given this, that is why I was leaning towards the 0404 and 1212M: cheap, PCIe, getting at least 2 channels of audio in the DAW if I need it, and they seems like they would suite my needs assuming there isn't major architectural issues that would make their handling of softsynths more deficient than their Lynx and RME counterparts. Thanks for the help, Uro |

| I have a Lynx L22 and I pretty much do what you're thinking about. Great sound card, drivers and support when I need it. Worth every dollar I paid for it. DaveT |

| Lives for gear | I've been thinking pcie as my next move on anything for lower latency. I have a rosetta 200 going to a digi002 spdif to fw and want to get away from the digi sell it and get a pcie at this point. I'm not sure but is my only option symphony or can I use a Lynx or RME as well if I wanted to with the Rosetta? I would pay between $600-$900 for something that offers low latency and is rock solid ![]() There are lots of pcie cards out there though that are cheaper than $700+ but I've never heard much talk about any others than the lynx, symphony, protools hd and rme that are pretty nice. The low end forum would know most likely for $500 and below I'm sure. |

Thread Starter | So would you say there would a significant performance boost between lets say one of the EMU cards and a Lynx or RME? I am probably a little naive on the specifics of computer hardware, so it seems for what my purposes are RME or Lynx would be overkill seeing I don't need as many tracks they offer. My naive conclusion would be that, that is the difference in cost and not necessarily better performance. Thanks, Uro |
