Thread Starter | So I've finally started making some bass traps for my small home studio. It is a one in all studio being the mixing and tracking all in one room. My question is, I've only got 2 2'x4' 4" traps and 2 2'x2' 4" traps, Where would be the best place to start with these? I was thinking probably the best starting point is around the mixing area no? Or would I get better results placing around the tracking are mostly around the drumset? Attached is a quick layout of the room, I know the mixing desk in the corner isnt the best but I have to do with the space I have. room.jpg picture by Carnesd - Photobucket Srry the pic kinda sux, but you can see where everything is, the drums on the left , guitar amps in top middle, and mixing desk top right. Door on right and window on the left. |

| I'd buy some bulk mineral wool cheaply and do more treatment, but 'till then, I'd keep them mobile so they can be used for tracking when tracking, and mixing when mixing. |

| Bass traps Bass traps go in corners. I would place the bass traps in the corners from top to bottom. |

Thread Starter | Well the plan is to get more but right now i'm kinda strapped, I think next I will make some superchunks to go in all four corners of the room. Where would be the best place to put these for mixing? behind the monitors on the wall I'm facing? |

| Priority one: Early reflection points... the point on the side walls and ceiling halfway between your ears and the speaker on that side... when mixing... ... or when tracking, making sure you absorb early reflections between soundsource and mic. After early reflection points, it's all diminishing returns, but I would venture a guess that your next greatest return would be trapping the corners. I have a small, 11 foot square, completely problematic room, and saw a HUGE improvement with massive treatment. For around $600 including screws, lumber, etc, I covered every wall and the ceiling with at least 4 inches of mineral wool, and superchunked EVERY vertex in the room except for the ones that meet the floor. WORLD of difference. Took about a week. |
