Plug-in CD Idea??

So,

This has probably been done…but I think someone should make a Plug-in- vs. Real gear comparison CD…Kind of like that pre-amp CD that came out a few years back..

I think it would be cool to be able to A/B plugin/hardware..this could help clear up some debates…or not..

I was sent something like this a while back to review.
It was called 'The ABCD'.
It wasn't great, to be honest, and I just felt the whole idea is open to so many variables, and is so subjective, that it is nigh on impossible to implement on a CD (16/44.1 don't forget too!).

what a solo'd track won't tell you is how a sound will behave in the mix.

often, the difference on a naked track between a silverface 1176 and the uad plug is subtle. you think, 'hm, this plug sounds really close to the hardware.' and it does.

but then you drop those tracks into the mix, and the vocal with the silverface just pops out of the speakers and blows smoke in your eyes, but the track with the plug fights you, it's too far back, then it sits on top with no connection to the music, well maybe it needs some eq, and i'll cut some more from the acoustics...

really, truly: trust what people who own the boxes are telling you. you think i *want* to spend $3000 on an old la2a? wait, wrong question, because i do. put it this way: do you think i would if i didn't have to?
