Randy Newman's demo of Jessie's Song

Jessie's Song (When She Loved Me) from Toy Story 2 is one of the most beautiful songs...ever. Sarah Mclachlan sang it flawlessly in the film.

Randy Newman however has a way of touching you deeper by his flawed performances, his imperfect but oh so honest deliverance. I'm dying to hear the demo of his. It's nowhere to be found in his catalogue or on youtube but...

I know it was published as an extra material on a special edition of Toy Story 2 on Blu-Ray (maybe even DVD, not sure).
Has anyone heard this ? Is there any way to find this elsewhere ?

I saw Randy a couple of weeks ago. What a hero. One of the best things I've seen. "I miss you", "Louisiana". Such great songs.

When the record "Short People" was released, I went into the local record store and asked for it. The clerk was sitting on a stool and as he got up, he muttered something like "what are you some kind of masochist? "

He was about 5'3" and I'm 6'2"....
I got a hearty laugh out of it.
I'll bet he hated that record!

Always like "Jolly Coppers" and "In Berlin" from Little Criminals.
The entire album is great in fact.

It really is. I have seen that film about 10,000 times (twin boys aged 4) and it's about as perfect as you can get in terms of it's purpose, and effect in a film.

I didn't know that's who sang it. It's lovely.

Can't help with tracking down that demo, but I will say that Randy's latest (Harps and Angels) is a gem. From simple and beautiful to incredibly ambitious arranging.

Yep, other than Sail Away, that's my favorite. Great, great songs hiding behind the Short People hit.

"Beat up little seagull
on a marble stair
tryin to find the ocean
been looking everywhere"

(Baltimore, if I remember correctly)

I've seen Randy many times and even met him when I booked him for the Miss USA pageant (?!?!). He sang Lousiana, solo piano. Weird.

He's as funny a raconteur as he is a songwriter. At one concert he was talking about how he had four boys, then years later, in a second marriage, he had a little girl. He said it was lucky he had the boys first. If he had had the girl first he would have thought the boys were reetarded.

We saw him at Jazzfest one year. It was kind of a stormy day and as he was singing Louisiana, when he sang "They're trying to wash us away" the clouds gave way, the umbrellas came up and everyone was singing along.

"Six feet of water in the streets of Evangeline". How prescient.

Oh, sorry, the topic was "Jessie's Song". I used to watch that movie over and over with my little girl. On night she was having a bunch of friends spend the night and when that song came on they all spontaneously broke into tears. They're all 14 years old now, know it all teenagers, but still melt if I play it on piano.

That guy makes all types of money writing and performing songs for movies now days. Plus all types of great songs on his own I can't say enough good things about his music.
