I was looking for tips on how to record and mix to get a similar sound to the clip I posted. Also if you fast forward to the end, I was wondering how to get the effect on the singers voice. |

What effect? The singer (sic) just changes from "scream" mode into "grunt" mode for one word/syllable.

Triggers on drums, use recorded triggered sound as a visual cue to drop in steven slate samples on the drums in your DAW. Overheads mixed in as needed. Guitars are Line6 POD farm. Vocal effect is dude's vocal cords vibrating.

It means the only mics you need are overheads, put triggers on the rest of the drums. Mixing is different for everyone, can't say what he does. His username on here is joeymusicguy.

You could mic that up too or just use what you get in the overheads. You'll have to edit everything to a grid to get the tight punch. That stuff sounds good at first but it's hard to listen to after awhile.

if the effect you're talking about is the actual singing part and not the screaming, then it's just double tracked with a harmony and it's got a delay on it. pretty much everything else is standard metal stuff. surgically edited guitar tracks and, as mentioned before, triggered drums. |

I personally close mic all the cymbals then gate or splice them up when they aren't being used. Sample replaced drums. Part of everything sounding so clean is the lack of bleed and clutter. In fact I wouldn't be shocked if every cymbal was replaced for individual hits like a crash or china, and the recorded track only used when the cymbal was being hit repeatedly. I doubt guitars are from a pod pedal... I'm sure they used some really nice heads into some really nice cabs with some really nice guitars. TDWP is endorsed out the ass. Vocals are probably ran through a distressor for a little dirt. You can simulate this by ramping them with a distorted guitar amp or with sansamp or something. The singing is just a damn good singer with lots of harmonies verb and delay. |

Check out the Andy Sneap "Production Tips" forum, there is a ton of info on the kinds of techniques used in this recording. The engineer/mixer is Joey Sturgis and he's a regular on that forum. Production Tips - Ultimate Metal Forum |

The singing is incredibly melodyned/autotuned and TDWP does for a fact use line6 pod farm on this record.

And I'm a little shocked the pod is that good. And here I am worrying about using good heads, cabs, multiple mics and pres...
