Pop/Punk bands !!!

I actually watched MTV, MTV2, FUSE, and Vh1 for 3 hours last night and I must say that I didn't know there were so many pop/punk bands being pushed right now. It's like every label got together and decided that this summer would be the year of the pop/punk bands. I stopped counting them at 13. I can't remember a genre overload like this since hair bands took over in the late 80's. We should all be preparing for the inevitable backlash that's going to happen in the next few years. But seriously, do label exec's call each other and plan this kind of oversaturation or does it just happen all by it self?

It IS astounding.

They are now looking for odd ways, literally, to dress up the same thing, AFI - in goth clothes, punk bands with LONG hair, but they are all playing the same style..

All I can say is the the punk rock song format has turned out to be as durable a medium jas calypso, or the 12 bar blues for carrying a message.

Who would EVER have thought it would have tuirned out to be such a popular genre...

Predominantly white teenage girls it seems favor vocal groups and or artists that use dance routines

Predominantly white teenage boys it seems favor intentionally "bratty" rebelious rock bands, spesifically, punk bands.

Right now in the UK courtesy of David Beckam the footballer, a tame punk rock hairstyle has entered the mainstream in fashion and acceptability. You can now hold down a job in the financial distict with this punk style haircut. It is called the Hoxton Fin and a google search will explain it's roots.

I must appologise to rap and R and B genres. I know both of the above racial demografic groups I mentiond ALSO like rap and R and B too!

Either way punk has gone corperate! I wonder if the managers turn up to meetings on skateboards... Punk Rock millionairs seem to be rather low key spenders... any one know one?

I saw the documentary of the making of the Sex Pistols first record a few nights ago....I dunno that was one of the best ever albums I can think of... In a way I can SEE just how popular it would continue to remain. It has a HUGE influence on my production style as my friends would tell you...

I grew up listening to 70s and 80s punk and I cant stand the new shit people are calling punk.I think it started kinda with Green Day witch I dont hate that much but I would never buy anything they put out.Now all this shit thats out is so watered down and cute just like everything else on the radio.I saw a thing on MTV bout Sump 41 somone refered to them as ahead of there time???I wonder if the Buzzcocks came out now(and were cute)would they be popular?I allways thought of them as real popy in a good way same with alot of the punk stuff I like Ramones,Social Distortion,Sex Pistols,Husker Du,Misfits,X,Damned I think its real popy just not popular. Those new bands are just terrible.I dont get it??? Its all designed to float money out of kids wallets ages 13-20

Grizzly bands in their late 20's / esarly 30's shooting videos in playgrounds or on campuses to seem 'down with the kids' ala Teenage Dirtbag

A lot of it is what I call 'instant nostalgia' - remember back when we were in 10th grade? (BIG YAWN) IMHO there is nothing more boring than listening to kids under 20 'reminising' about their short lives... but this muical scene at is cheezest DOES exactly that!!! Its almost central to it's existance...

It seems a sure fire formula, thats why it get repeated so much, the next batch of kids come up and THEY need their OWN song too....

Tedious,

tutt
