Thanks once again for all the SLUTZ for the heads up on the ATM 25......just so good on floor tom, I'm going to get more to put on all toms. Anyone try the ATM 25 on a kick, sorry I didn't try it out yet (haven't got my own drum kit), didn't have time during the last session. Nick |

I love it on kick. Never used it on toms. Hoe does it compre to the 421 on toms. 421 is my fav tom mic, but if it ranks up there with that maybe I'l just get more ATM25s.

I use it on BD most of the time. For kicks (no punn intended) I used a 421 in the BD on a recent project nad tried the ATM25 on electric guitar. It worked nicely there too.

Good on kick. Really good on toms, and some bass amps. I've never tried it on guitars....hmmmm.

It's been my go-to kick mic for almost ten years. Lately, I've also used it on a 4x12 cab at 45º to one cone and an sE Z3300 on one of the other cones also at 45º - HUGE guitar sound with no processing necessary. thumbsup |

I've also used it several times on upright bass, wrapped in foam, in the bridge pointing up, in conjunction with a Millennia TD-1 DI. Worked quite nicely.

I've got one inside a kick drum (with a Lawson L47FET outside) right now. I'm really liking this for helping get an attack-heavy kick drum sound. Chris Garges Charlotte, NC |

Never tried it on toms, but I understand a lot of guys have had great success with them there. Albums by Evanescence, Stained, and Linkin Park all had ATM-25's on the toms.

Just bought another ATM 25, on it's way from the US as it's cheaper to get one from where most of you guys are then here in Australia. One of my mates did the hire and live recording for the Eagles when they were here on the Aussie tour, they used the ATM 25 on the toms. They used a D112 on the kick, I have the actual D112 they used. I didn't say I liked the sound of the D112, but I can't wait to try the ATM on a kick next time around. Nick Nick |

The first place I tried my ATM25 was kick, and that's the microphone I've used on kick ever since. Then one day I brought to a friend's session. The drums were already well-tweaked with other gear so we stuck it in front of the bass amp, through an old Altec 1567 followed by some compression. Holy crap, it was the bass sound from all those mid '60's British bands (esp. the first couple LP's by The Who)!. So I bought another one, one for bass and one for kick drum. It works fine for more modern bass sounds too. A couple months ago I tried it out on a Marshall half stack, a Shure 57 up close, and the ATM25 back a little, both bussed to a single channel. For bright guitar sounds like p90 bridge pickups, it really did work well. Not the tightest sound, but BIG. However, for the darker guitar tones (humbuckers, especially in neck position or with treble rolled off) it was far too muddy sounding for my tastes. So I have 2 ATM25's and for me that's a real useful number to have on hand.

Hi (First post here !) As a drummer, I really love audio technica mics for drums ! I use ATM25 on kick for many years, ATM23 on snare and cheaper Pro25's on toms. They seem to be just similar to ATM25. Same specifications, same sound ! Did anyone ever compare ATM25 vs Pro25 ? |

Like someone else said, I tried it on bass drum a few years ago and that's all I've used since. (inside, 3 to 5 inches away from the head) I tried them on toms and while it sounded 'ok' I wasn't really impressed. Could be because I normally use Emperor heads tuned fairly low and the ATM25's didn't see bright enough for me. (I tend to like condensors on toms generally speaking ) I think Stedman N90's would sound great on toms but I haven't tried it yet. |

The Pro25 is a great mike, that happens to be cheap. They're $59.95 at 8th Street. adam drawingroom

I use emperor heads too at this moment and AT Pro25 just sound great ! Not boxy, with big low end ! Evans G2's seem to give a "sharper" attack. My Pro25's love them too !

Pre's are in the board, from Midas XL to Yam 01V ! I always bring my AT mics on the shows, and FOH engineers are very happy with it ! Most of the times, with Pro25's a little notch -6dB around 250 Hz on toms, no compression, and it sounds really great !

I ended up replacing it with the E602. Just the right amount of tone/punch/air (inside the kick drum). Very little eq necessary.

Fine on kick, but depends on the kick and player, as usual Good luck
