New Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 or B-Stock MOTU HD896HD?

I Know there are loads of threads like this, but im really in a pickle as to what to upgrade to.

The focusrite apparently boasts great sound quality (is this true?) and retails for around £380, however my last interface was one of the old saffires (4 in 6 out) and I have never really been pleased, not with the sound but the build and stability, is this a concern with the PRO also??

I have the opportunity to buy a MOTU 896HD B-stock with warrenty for £349, is this unit still relevant when compared to new products such as the saffire? Is it showing its age or is it still a better sounding, more reliable unit than the saffire??

Im wanting to purchase soon, so any comments/advice would be fantastic,

I know these things are always subjective, but you get the idea

Personally, I would take the 896, because of more I/O options and cheaper price tag, but both are solid units. I've always been happy with the A/D converters on my MOTU gear. The pres on the Saffire are probably better though. What's your gut telling you?

well every studio I have ever been in has used MOTU gear as its heart, so I associate MOTU with professionalism, but I have read that the pre's on the MOTU are not great, and are designed more for flat live sound checking rather than recording quality,

is this true?

The saffire pro looks great, and less in outs isnt that bigger deal as i will rarely need many, but im concerned about its useabilty/ quality of the ad/da conversion

is the fact that the MOTU is now an old model also cause for concern?

any more thoughts anyone?

to put it simply, which one sounds the best..each has more I/O than I need right now, so it comes down to which unit will provide the best sound

personal opinions everyone
