How to use a foreign preamp with ProFire2626

I am wanting to buy a pre-amp to hook up to my ProFire2626 so I can use that pre-amp instead of the ones in my interface and use my interface to A/D D/A.

How would I do that (connections wise and program wise (if it applies)?

And does anyone have a good one in mind?

I've heard a ton of people talk about a Grace 101 and I've also heard Really Nice Preamp mentioned.

Also, how does A/D D/A work and what exactly does it mean?

Is a pre amp hooked up to an A/D D/A converter = an interface?

Sorry for stupid questions, but I've searched a lot of this and can't really find much.

Help a newbie?

Ok.

you can use the ADAT in port to plug external pres. But you will need an ADAT A>D converter or a preamp with an ADAT card installed. You can also use the S/PDIF port of your interface, but the situation is the same, you'll need to convert the external pre signal to S/PDIF.

You could also use the line-in of your interface channels to plug an external pre, but bear in mind the signal would pass throught the pres and the converters of the 2626, what is not the best option but sometimes is not a problem.

Cheers!

This is how i run my lunchbox. However, running them thru the line in will bypass the profire's pre's. The profire pre's will not affect your external pre's sound.
