Submixer recommendations . . .

I'm looking to free up a few channels up on my analog board by submixing my effects returns down to 2 channels. I have 4 stereo balanced outs, maybe a few more to come, so i'm looking for a good (small) rackmount mixer based around XLR's, new or old, that'll take care of this. Anything i should look out for?
I've been looking at the board for a while, there's always good advice here so hopefully you can help . .
