Any advice about choosing the better year for this mic? I have seen older ones on ebay selling from France, white body casing, some slightly different looking, the new one is 360 usd and black THAT Is all I know.... anyone know?

Fuzz, I prefer the older white ones myself, but the black ones are great too. The older ones have a bit more weight to the sound, but that could be my imagination. Maybe the transformers were different in the older ones? 421's are really a fantastic and extremely versatile mic. One can basically throw it on anything. These are becoming one of my favorite amp mics.

Sennheiser changed the design significantly during production. Earlier revisions have a different design as this was changed to make the mic cheaper to produce. The voice-coil was changed at one point too. There are copper and aluminium versions apparently. I only have early white ones which are said to not be as bright as the later black ones. |

White and early black are great. I'm not a big fan of the "-II" versions. I think most folks will agree that they're not as nice as the older ones. later, m |
