Modular Diffuser Panel Q's?

I'm going to build some 2'X3' modular diffuser panels the kind that have vertical chambers of varying depth. My question is they are kind of expensive and I'm wondering how many to make.
1. Would you put diffusers like this in your tracking room? Would it help like drum sounds or guitar sounds in my live room? Then how many 2'X3' diffusers would I need for a 16'X9'X7' room and where would be the best placement for those?
2. My mixing/control room is smaller 10X8X7. I'm also building mid and high freq. absorbers as well, and I know that a diffuser would be good behind the listening spot on the back wall or so. My question is how many would I want for a control room this size?
The directions I got to build this are 1/2 inch-thick wood and to create a 24" by 35" and 9" wide.
Has anybody else built these? And would you say it changed the sound of the room?
Lastly, I think the varying length 2"X2" stick diffusers look cool to (George Massenberg’s new mix room is maybe a bit overkill) and might try making a few of those for my drum room but what might that do for my sound in my tracking room or is diffusion more of a control room thing? It seems to make sense that it would be valuable in the tracking room as well but...

thanks for the advice in advance!

Diffuser panels are not a great idea in smaller rooms, which your room is VERY small. If you do decide to go with them, which I think is not a good idea then building just mid/high end absorbers is a really bad idea. Either way you go your really going to need as much bass trapping in those rooms as you can get . Straddling all corners.. You are better off to build or buy bass trap panels then get thinner panels for the first reflection points.

Sam,

Your tracking room room is a bit too small to support diffusion, and your control room is definitely too small. I agree with Glenn - what you need most in both rooms is absorption, and especially bass trapping. Your main problems are due to the reflections from all those nearby walls (and the ceiling). The best solution for that is absorption.

Funny I was just going to post this question last night but I got caught up in the game (imagine I was caught up in a Packers Vikings game... what is the world coming to? ). Sorry to hijack but I figure this is on topic… sort of.

Anyway I have 5 Real-Traps now and they made a very big difference in my room but I still have some issues with 90 to 120 hz. I am down about 20db with a center freq around 105 110 ish. I need more absorption but I don't have the cash to get more Mini-Traps (sorry Ethan).

I am thinking of making my own but even after all the research I have done I am a little hazy on the details.

I just need some OC 703 or higher and build a frame right? What details am I missing? Attach the 703 (or something different??) to the frame on the front, should I add an air gap and more 703 or something else? Any drawings someone can point me to, I Googled all over but I did not find many good examples.

Thanks in advance!!
