Thread Starter | Question for Apogee FireMix users on monitoring analog/digital signals
I am about to start setting up a Rosetta 800 using the Firewire card and the FireMix software for monitoring. My question is that according to FireMix documentation the software allows direct no latency monitoring of the Apogee units 'hardware inputs', well, which ones? Analog or digital, or both? i.e. Lets say I have some mics connected to inputs 1&2, but I also have an ADAT lightpipe signal on the digital input (channels 3-8), can I monitor these both at the same time? It looks like FireMix has 8 faders but does it have an analog/digital source per fader? Also, does FireMix defeat the use of the 'source to analog out' buttong on the front panel? As from the manual it appears that this can be used to monitor both analog and digital at the same time by pressing a myriad of button combinations. Thanks, Mark |

OKay, I figured it out. The 'source to digital outs' button can also be thought of as a 'choose source(s) to send to FireMix'. It can of course be either analog or digital but then there are settings for both analog and digital combined. The next step is to to choose which channels in pairs that will be sent to FireMix are from either the analog or digital inputs by holding down the 'source to digital outs button', and then pressinng 'soft limit' to select the channel pair, and then the 'output resolution' button to toggle each channel pair between analog and digital inputs sent to FireMix through firewire. This enables you do to somethings with FireMix that couldn't be done with just the hardware unit, for example, create a mix of 4 analog inputs and 4 digital channel inputs and buss it all to analog outs 7&8 (or 3&4 or whatever), with independent level and pan controls, etc. This can't be done with just the Rossetta front panel since there's no way to route input channels to non-numerically-corresponding output channels. |
