Recording studios in Santa Monica/West LA

I'm not sure what the correct section for this post is.

I've been doing home recording for a long time, but feel it is time to pay for studio time to record a solo acoustic guitar CD. Do any of you have recommendations for a studio in the Santa Monica area? I've investigated a few, but the prices have been a bit shocking. I'm looking for a studio that has a good sounding room and experience recording solo guitar performances.

Thanks,
Bryan

I think it would be more cost effective and easier for you to rent the gear to record solo acoustic guitar, record at home and the take it to the big studio for mixing, reverb, eq, compression. I like live rooms for drums but not acoustic guitar.

The main thing that I grapple with at home is environmental noise. I live in an apartment on a street that is busy during commuting hours, so most of my recording is limited to nights, and even then I have issues with cars, car stereos, car alarms, neighbor's TVs, and other racket. I've tried recording in other locations, but I'd really like to record in a room that has been acoustically treated and is pretty well isolated from external sounds.

There is also the curse of the home studio: If I've got all the time in the world to work on a recording, then I end up taking it. Having a deadline to finish would be a good motivator.

Thanks for your input,
Bryan

Bryan,

You may want to give Arthur Barrow a call at Lotek studios in Venice. I've been making music with him for a decade, he's a monster...one of the Zappa alumni, worked with the Doors, etc. Here is a link to his site > http://pw1.netcom.com/~bigear/awbpage1.html. The real deal. Email me for his #.
