Better solution for C24 monitoring

I have a Control 24. I think the monitoring section sound thin and Harsh. What is out there that does not cost $3000 for monitoring that is excellent.
has anyone heard the
Dangerous MONITOR ST-SR
It is a lot cheaper than the Dangerous Monitor regular version.
How much of a differnece do these monitoring boxes make over the Control 24 monitoring section. Is it 2% better or 40% better.

Any feelings on Coleman audio, Mackie big knob, SPL, Presonus Central station
thanks

I had the same problem

Listening through the C 24 mon. section is like watching a movie through dirty glasses.

I went the Grace m906 route and couldnt be happier.

Here“s my review

The difference is BIG ( if you have good monitors & trained ears ) thumbsup

I am in the exact same boat....I am thinking the Dangerous ST as well. I hope it sounds as cool as it looks.
Suggestions/comments are greatly appreciated from all of those who have already remedied this situtaion.

Or you could just get a miniDAC OR DAC1 for $900 ,
and just place that small unit anywere, with some of the Best convertion quality out today ...

Caveat....not being a smart ass here.....

How would that help the TB, alt speaker switching, and headphone setup of the C24?...they all stink.

Presonus Central station.... Never heard one but heard good things....
Non of the above are in the same League as DAC 1 / miniDAc.... Had them..!

I got the Crane Song Avocet as a replacement for c24 monitor section. Absolutely stunning. Bob Katz uses one now and reckons it is up with the best DA convertor's out there, on par with the Benchmark.

Ahh, I was unaware that the Avocet had DA. i was leaning toward the Dangerous...hmmmm, now a decision must be made.
Dangerous vs. Avocet....round 1!

How would you use a benchmark DAC. I thought it was just a DA converter. What about switching between speakers. If you use the DAC then you have to go back into the control 24 inputs to monitor your mix. The whole point was to find a better solution.
let me know
thanks

Agreed ......
the differences between the 2 Is not conversion and sound quality,
.....IT is the PRICE
AVOCET = $2800
DAC1 = $950

You cant use it to switch,
According to the first post ...I was under the impression that the only thing needed was to "bypass the C24 monitor, attenuator and get a better D/A wile at it

Looks awesome..I dunno though, I may end up going with the Avocet upon further review. What are you thinking?
I was looking forward to doing the SH console, but that looks like it could be years at the rate they are moving....so I gotta fix this now. Let me know your thoughts on this.
Thanks

The latest revision Avocet looks cool .I did a little search on Brad Blackwood's forum at the REP I found out the current avocets[courtesy of Bob Katz' thread] are different from the first run.some improvements were made.total thumbs up.
My buddy is building some custom controllers I'm gonna try one ..I might go that route..but it might take forever to get one[you know how it is with this stuff...]
but the Avocet looks like a really good way to go.vintage king sells em for around 2300.00 i think.
The Avocet also just looks a bit more robust build wise than the D -ST..plus I already love Cranesong gear..Dave makes great stuff.

Thanks!
My head has spun around I think....I love the way the Dangerous looks, but think I prefer to go ahead and get the DA conversion as well for a little extra.
