I can highly recommend this place: http://www.sfguitarworks.com/

His work is top notch. The last job he did for me took about 2 weeks, and that was a complete refret and partial restoration of an ES335. He may turn around less complex jobs in a shorter time. The shop is near the corner of Potrero and 16th Street.

I second SF Guitarworks. He's 3 blocks away from my studio, too.

I've used Jeff's work before as well. He's a good guy. Very down to earth and nice to talk to and his work is excellent. He also shielded the poo out of my tele once for the same problem.

Good luck.

Dan, there is a guy in the South Bay who is supposed to be the best luthier in the Bay Area. I have his name somewhere and was gonna have him refret a few of my guitars. Let me know if you want to drive down there sometime.

For simple setups, sfguitarworks is good (and right near you) or Chris Barnett in corte madera. Chris is primarily a tube amp guru (used to work for the great sal trentino) but also knows guitars (he also used to work for gary brawer).
