Thread Starter | Hey everybody. I am getting a little desperate. I had a ventriloqist team called Big Walter and Little Willie in the studio yesterday and I couldn't get a hold of the situation. Big Walter was fine, sm7-Sebatron-1176, deep voice that the 76 loves. Little Willie is where I had serious problems, 58-Midas Venice-DBX 160xt, but I am having a hard time getting a good level from him. And isolation is terrible! He seems to be in the room mics and Big Walter's mic, everywhere but his own! Should I maybe switch to a LDC mic? I suggested we separate them, putting a gobo between Big Walter and Willie (who is incredibly short), but Walter said that wouldn't help. Willie sounds kind of "spitty" and has a bit of a lisp. They are coming back next weekend for a free day, but Walter, who just got out of jail and is a big guy, said I better get it straight or him and Willie are going to kick my ass for wasting their time! I'm sure I could take Willie (you just wouldn't believe how short he is), but Walter... Help! David

Problems with recording ventriloquism when you give the wooden guy his own mic. I have this too. Other guys push wooden guy into mic and it make a big bang. I like to use two valve mic from old country together with duct tape about 10 centimeters from big guy lips and one microphone for little woody but at least one foot away or bang! Hahaha then you blend sound together. this how the big time producer does it. I like the preamp is best for recording this type of thiing. And roll off a little sibilant at around 45k. So that my suggestion. I produce karaoke for year and have lotta experience. Why they wanna kick you? You tell them if they kick you in ass you kill them and then call the police!!! That will stop them from being bully. tutt tutt tutt ![]() | |

| I bet a contact mic on W's forehead would do the trick... also... you may want to try recapping your pres with Flux-Capacitors... I find these bring out a richness I bet you'll love...

| Wally had a thread going where he listed every preamp. I ask him to ask you guys to rate each one from 1-150 so that way we can know by democracy which one is best preamp! WoW When someone ask which is best preamp we will finally know the answer!!! WOuldn't that be cool. The companys probably took the thread down because when we get the answer all the others that aren't best one sales will go way down. Wally cant even log on to gearslutz now. :( I ask Wally for preamp list. I work with him producing karaoke master like this guy here http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...rshall+Karaoke |

Thread Starter | Rudy, Wally is awesome! Did you record that Rudy? Noise Toys, Flux Capacitors? Would they help get a nice "Wood" sound? JTR, No, I'm just really nervous about Big Walter. His criminal past leads me to believe he may be violent. Anyone more suggestions? David |

Thread Starter | JTR, You're right, it's probably that Little Willy had a bad phone mix! You're a real help! Not the same Willy though. David |

| Try recording it direct, this will minimize phase issues as well. Were you using high end AC cables? This can help make things bloom. War
