Thread Starter | Snare Drum - Acrylic, Solid Ply Shells
I am looking to add another snare to my arsenal. I currently own an Ayotte 18 ply 14" x 8" with wood hoops, and an old Tama 18ply 14" x 8" snares. I am wanting a thin shell 14" X 7" to complement what I have. I was looking at getting a solid ply stam bent Noble & Cooley but have since been thinking about stave and solid shells with no glue joint. I have never played or heard an acrylic shell and am curious about the characteristics. I am now thinking about a Dunnett in a solid ply made from cherry. I have also looked at Hard Bop stave snares. Both will be of similar price, the Dunnett being a bit more. Any comments on solid plys and acrylic shells is welcome. Thanks.
