DP and RME

Anyone using the RME fireface with Digital Performer on a G5?

how does it compare to Digi 002r & Protools LE?

Thanks

I already have the Digi 002r with Apogee Rosetta.

But I would like to switch over to the DP / RME setup for more ADAT ports so I could have the ability to use my ISA 428 pre converters along with apogee converters.

I guess I would like to see if the switch to Digital Performer would be a better working environment than PTLE.

Thanks in Advance

the is more of a DP question and less of an rme question. there is a lot of stuff about DP that i like. it's midi is great, and the chunks feature is great for folks doing audio for video. if you'd like it more than PT is something you'd have to tell us. i use it more than i use PT, so i'm very comfortable in DP. but i don't know if it would be better for you.

This is very close to what I'm using for my remote rig. DP4.6, 15 inch Powerbook 1.5MHZ - 1 gig ram, and the Fireface. It has been very stable especially with 4.6.
I can't compare it to the 002. It does so much more than the 002, and I don't seem to have any problems that 002 owners cry about! Just check the DUC if you want to know what problems people are having with Digi gear.

Best,
Don

The fireface is way better than the Digi 002, interms of converters and such. I use it with DP 4.61 on a G5 and it works great. Except for when it gets high on the cpu, it starts to get a little crackly unless you set the processor use to medium. Then its fine.

I must add to my ears at medium priority it sounds markedly worse than high priority. I mean A LOT worse. Over and over again....But if your mixing itb, it won't matter because it won't affect the BTD. Always record at high though I would say.

I have motu 24 I/O and D.P 4.6 on a dual G5. It's the most stable system I've worked with! I've owned HD 2 Accel, digi 001, Mbox and RME.

Thanks again for response.

I am unclear of what the Priority deal is?
Does Medium Priority disable plugs/CPU usage or am I thinking wrong?

Also, any experience wth the RME DPS cards

No experience with the cards, just the fireface.
Work priority just tells the mac to make a program lower priority, because apparently you can't have the rme drivers and dp both at high priority (or something like that.) The rme drivers start to choke otherwise, but their default is high priority I believe.
Setting the work priority to medium doesn't really do anything except sound worse, although I'm one of the only ones who seems to think so.
