Had a client that wanted the sound of a needle drop at the begining of the song. I grabbed an old record, I think it was John Lee Hooker, one that had been played many times. I recorded a few needle drops, picked the best one, trimmed and extended it, and that was it.

Give it a try. Much more satisfying than using someone else's sample.

There's a freeware plug in that does all this. It's got all the freak'n noise ya want. I think it's called Vynl.

Ah yes, there it: http://www.izotope.com/

Send a message via AIM to superbee
www.sonomic.com is a great online library of samples. I am sure you can find one there. Pricing was reasonable last time I made a purchase.

Cheers,
Brian

PS
If you can't find one, PM me and I will record one for you, it would be easy to do.

Izotope vinyl doesn't really sound like the real thing. You can buy one of those all in one record players for next to nothing, used. It's gonna sound a lot better if you create it; I've been thru the whole game of trying to simulate it...

Yeh, I got that one from my son. I've never tried to add needle scratch, skips rumble to any recordings I've done. Not yet anyways!

Yeah, I'm pretty obsessive, but I can't imagine spending a bunch of time on a recording and then putting some mucky noise mask over it and hoping it reminds people of an old record.
