why not go with the Yamaha HS10W made to match the HS50Ms? I have one and loooooove it. Lots of control, tons. Plus supposedly the HS50Ms are the new NS10 (even though they are not) but still maybe that means it will match NS10s better than most? BTW the trick with a sub is to take time to set it up properly and also it should barely be on in a "flat" situation. You will know when it's perfect.

This is an extremely old thread, so it's unlikely to be monitored by anyone. But in the off chance it is, I'd rather get this subwoofer to someone that really wants it rather than have it picked up by the Salvation Army.

Thanks!
Sure, I'll have it. I'll pay the shipping for it as well. What state are you in?

(And how much do you want to sell it for?)

I'm in California (Orange County). Not really sure what it's worth. $40? Shipping could be costly....

NS-10 Debate

Ok so I have stayed out of the NS-10 conversation until recently when I helped a friend out and my payment was a matching pair of early 80's ns-10's with low milage on them. Until this happened I was mixing on some D.A.S. 8's from Italy and I am VERY happy with the way they sound but...

My mixes on the NS-10's just translate better to the CAR. My mixes on the D.A.S's translate better to higher end home stereo's or concert PA's but the NS-10 mixes end up just tighter and more radio friendly.

Now I too am looking for a sub to match up with them, of course I want it to work with both pairs and I am trying to figure out how to implement this configuration (ie run everything full range and use the sub processing as the LPF and HPF and let the NS-10's do their thing separately...)

Of course I don't own a pair of Ausbergers yet...

Oh ok That's more for home theater, you'd be better off getting people interested in a home theater forum

I agree. I think the Yamaha NS10's help mixes translate over to a more car stereo ready sound. If you are going for a radio ready mix then I would say NS10's are the way to go. I'm not going to throw out a really awesome secret but I will say that I know a guy who has made 4 gold records in the last few years mixing on other versions of the NS speakers but tracking through NS10s. I dont use NS10's but I am currently trying out other NS speakers without a sub. I just bought a Bryston 2B.

The idea is, people will use consumer speakers so we just need to find ones that sound just as shitty. But they can't mask things that we need to know about. When you bring a mix over and hear something you couldnt on your reference monitors.. its a sad moment. NS10s dont do that. Believe it or not the really high end genelecs do. And tannoys are not really affordable. Most studios that have them just use them for artist playback.

I just purchased some NS10s, and I have a KLH ASW10-125 sub, also have a BGW 250d power amp, could someone please guide me on how to hook all this up. The KLH sub has two RCA low level inputs, and *in & out* Hi level from amp. I'm pretty excited to get up and running and hearing all the great setups I hope this sub will suffice?, thank you all and have a great holiday.

Hello,

I have been planning for a long time to extend my pair of NS-10M STUDIO with a Yamaha HS10W sub.

The main 'problem' or the thing that is freaking me out and the reason because of I haven't done it yet is following:

Q 1: As NS-10M STUDIO is passive but Yamaha HS10W sub have active construction, what would be the most effective way to drive & connect them together?
Maybe using some passive switch with potentiometer so that I can set and forget correct volume balance between NS-10M STUDIO monitors and SUB?

Q 2: How to 'measure', set or calibrate to find 'correct', BALANCE between Yamaha HS10W sub and NS-10M STUDIO pair? That is actually complete 'horror' from the absolute 0 dB point of view also.

I think these questions are crucial for all people considering to expand their NS-10 x setups with a sub.

BTW, I'm working in professional acoustic treated control room, so we can skip that part of 'enigma'.

I would really appreciate if the community could give some inputs.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,
thats exactly what i was looking for...
my main issue is setting my ns10m studios up with a passive sub to get around the humming noise of an active one by using a good power amp. I use a p2500s for the ns10´s and i´m very impressed by the noise level(or better to say no noise level) this amp has...
so if anybody has any suggestions please participate...
