Consistent Level all all mixes ?

How do i maintain the same volume in all my mixes?

I mixed a few tracks and i guess i had my interface high in volume but was mixing low.

Few are loud! Some are standard and some are low!

How do i get around this ?

If you are happy with the mixes-Send your tracks to a mastering engineer, he will take care of it.

This is one of many reasons to get your music mastered.

You partially answered your question by saying you had your interface too loud. Try and maintain a "baseline" level on your volume pot, and stick to that level most of the time.

Pay attention to levels in your DAW don't let your individual channels get too hot, use a trim or gain plugin to get your levels consistent and conservative/moderate. Leave enough headroom on your master bus, get it peaking at about -6/8 and average around -22/19.

Once you get used to maintaining this kind of technique your tracks will all be at a consistent level.

good advice
you certainly want to check your mixes loud and soft, but having a reference volume will probably add to consistency to your mixes in other ways beyond just volume.

nevertheless, if you like your mixes don't toss them, just level them out in the mastering stage. Mixes always come out louder and softer to some extent and even if your speaker volume is locked down, your human ears vary from day to day, hour to hour.

there are plenty of articles and threads about self-mastering, but if you have some budget, sending your stuff out to a real mastering engineer will totally amaze you the first time you do it.

when mixing a similar style of music, especially for an album, i usually run the 2bus through a limiter (for clients rough copy). I just check the loudest parts of a song to make sure its hitting 0, or rounding off 1-2 db.

not perfect but it works.

find a plug with an RMS meter or something, and adjust the gain until they match up well, being very careful not to clip anything. I find T-Rack's loudness meter to very helpful. If you want the best results, just send them off to be mastered.

I am not sure I understand the question. When you track something you should keep THAT track in the -10 region if using a DAW.

You are saying you tracked too hot? And have mixing problems? I think that is what you mean. Correct me if I am wrong.

Leave plenty of headroom while tracking. And all your mixes should be able to hang together. And when making a full CD always keep a baseline that is used thru the entire project and adjust from there. Obviously every song will be different... And mixing with a small amount of buss compression will help visualize in your ears more of what the final sound is. But don't burn that. And switch the buss compressor off and on frequently cause it can hide obvious level faults between competing sounds. Just a suggestion.

Once you get accustomed to the practice you will rarely have to check your meters to see if your overloading the master bus and you'll be in the same ball park level each time.
