Thread Starter | Which AD converter would you recommend for less important tracks?
I am using Lavry Black 10 for AD conversion through Apogee 16XDA (AES cable). I record drums in bigger studios so most of the time I get away with stereo AD only. But there are times when 3rd or 4th channel is needed, room mics mostly. I am on a budget here so have this in mind. The second condition is it has to have AES digital option. What would you recommend? |

get a small mixer and just mix it to two channels. As long as you have your levels where you want them, you can take care of the eq later on the stereo track!!

This I have already, but sometimes you want these extra tracks to be separated from the 2 stereo tracks. What to buy for such situation is my dilemma. RME, something cheaper? |

RME thumbsup Crisp and clean, no caffeine. Can't beat em for the price, sound, & reliablity triple-play. |

Thanks for the tips. What about Presonus stuff? Many think it's quite usable for the buck. |

...if you're talking the same price range as the Presonus stuff, you'd do well to look into the Echo Audiofire Series...more stable drivers, great ad/da, and very clean crisp sound...probably the most trouble-free interfaces on the market in this price range... ...if you search the reviews on the Presonus interfaces, you'll find there's alot of complaints of "graininess", "smudged" and "muddy" sound quality...I have no first hand experience with the Presonus converters, but I have spent quite a bit of time researching these lower cost converters, and no other company gets as consistant positive feedback as the Echo gear...

I will check the Echo stuff. Thanks. The problem with these cheaper converters is that they don't have AES option. I need to hook all AD converters to my Apogee via AES link... |
