42" Monitor and Bigger Cl

I am using a Dell 23" monitor right now for protools. I have it set to the smallest resolution of 1280x768. My Isight is not amazing. I have it behind my Control 24. I am looking to get a 42" monitors or a projection screen. I also want to be able to fit more faders on the screen. I don't want to spend a gizillion dollars.

Has anyone had luck with and largere monitor that are cheaper or projections screens that are clear.

The Projeection screens I have seen look blurry or not enjoyable to look at when working 24/7

Thanks

Arms & magic glasses

I had the same issue, having trouble reading small stuff on the screen.

I now have a pair of 19" NEC monitors mounted on long arms clamped behind my console. I can pull them as far forward as I want, right up to my face. That helped me a lot.

I'm now working to add a third monitor out of the way for plug ins.

When I mentioned this issue to my Optometrist at my last checkup, he prescribed bifocal computer glasses that are set up for middle distance (monitors) on the top and reading on the bottom.

Now I alternate with the glasses and pulling the monitors up close.

Getting old sucks !

Hi,
Who makes the arm for the monitor that you bought. Right now I have a Dell 23" monitor. I love the monitor but because the Protools Control 24 is very deep. It is on a Omnirax desk in behind the mixing board. If I leav foward over the board I can see better but I am getting a lot of headaches because I am squinting to see. Do you use protools with the 2 19" monitors. How do the faders lay out across the 2 monitors. I have never worked this way. Is it akward that it leaves the screen and continues onto the next.
thanks

i think the company Humanscale makes a bunch of arms for holding monitors. I've seen them up close and they look really cool.

I just got the Dell 20" widescreen and love it. I use an arm to get it over my console as well (my eyesight is horrible). The one I bought is an Ergotron ($100) but says it only holds up to a 20". I would check the web and see if they make bigger ones (I'm sure they do). The ergotrons are really cool looking and really easy to adjust. They really pimped out my workstation/desk!

Ergotron is a good choice. Also check out Chief (http://www.chiefmfg.com), their FCB-110 Triple Arm Deskmount has a remarkable range of motion.

i just got a 37" LCD monitor. man, it's great. no more stiff neck and back from trying to get my nose into a tiny 19"

plus, clients love it. they freak out when they first walk in the control room. gotten alot of compliments. they could care less about the neve and api eq's..but WOW look at that screen.

does'nt it seem like everywhere you go now there are giant flatscreens? bars, restaurants, airports.....if you are going to have a high tech environment (studio) i think this is a necessity.

tip..make sure you turn the thing off whenever you're not using it. i've already got ghost shadows on mine.

What kind of 37" did you get and what is the resolution. How many faders can you fit across the screen.

Why are ther shadows. Do you have a screen saver?

i have 37inch on the wall with a 23inch apple on the icon. the 37inch looks great and has a direct dvi input from the G5. its looks great. i usually put plugins and the PT mixer on that screen and the waves on the 23inch.. but i can do it the other way around too..

The mounts I got are Kensingtons. They are decent and I got them from Amazon for around 70 bucks.

There are heavier ones available. The 23" Dell might be too much for the Kensington. Also, most arms and LCD monitors use a standard 4 screw mounting plate in the back. Over 20" or so I believe this changes.

My 2 arms are mounted on the back of the top shelf of my Omnirax, and the arms are sufficiently long to extend to within a few inches of my face. I beefed up the rear of the top shelf of the Omnirax so the screw clamps of the arms weren't dependant on a single layer of pressed board.

looked around for a while. settled on an HD LCD tv made by polaroid . it's got the 15 pin computer input (HD15) i dont think polaroid wants to be in the game any more, so they are blowing them out. there are plenty of bargains on ED's but they don't look as good the HD's. the plasmas are not quite as sharp, and i can't imagine a projection being sharp enough for serious work(correct me if i'm wrong, just my analysis). not sure about how many faders, mine are below my arms.

found out that my computer does'nt go into screen saver when DAW is open. it is a myth that LCD's don't get "burn in" i read alot of places that only plasmas get "burn in"
so i learned the hard way to always turn off monitor when not using and turn the contrast way down.
