Thread Starter | Alternatives for Motu MTP, need SMPTE/MTC/SPP
I'm looking for a USB midi interface with SMPTE and wich can read/generate MTC and LTC and SPP. Does anyone have any suggestions besides The MOTU Miditimepiece AV which is unnecessarily expensive.

Asked a similar question and was advised to look at the M-audio 8x8 Midisport w/SMPTE. Haven't had the opportunity to check it out though.

I glanced at that one also but I haven't been able to find out if it supports SPP as well as MTC. It's the right price range though.

I have to believe that SPP has long been included as a standard in MIDI. It would seem rather pointless to exclude this nowadays. However, I imagine an inquirey to the manufacturer couldn't hurt. Good luck and let us know how you make out. |

The Midisport 8x8 rocks! It has it all. MTC LTC SPP SMPTE all FPS's, regenerates broken SMPTE. I'm gonna buy it.

Glad to hear. Good luck. I'm returning the MOTU MTP AV. I'll check it out as well. |

| Old Gear!! Look what I found...
I'm almost embarrassed to ask this question, but I finally found a used, cheap, Yamaha MT4X that I can use to move several inspired vocal performances from cassette to digital. Some of these songs are pretty good, but they sound really 90's with that big gated snare and other dated sounds. I need to re-do the music, without having to recapture the vocals! Problem is that I was using FSK to sync my vocal tracks to midi in MOTU Performer, prior to the release of Digital Performer! (Yes, I do go waaayyy back). Didn't have enough money or computer to record vocals and guitars digitally! Is there anything that will read that FSK sync signal into Logic Pro or DP7? I used an old MOTU MTP-1 back in the day! I think it's still in the closet, but will that even help? I remember it had a serial interface. (Prior to the MTP-AV USB). (It may have nothing to do with the music, but it sure did seem to be more fun back then!) |

I don't see why you couldn't use the old MTP in stand alone and make it output MTC.. then just run the MTC midi into another midi interface. the rest should just be set up for getting the tempo as close as possible. but tempo alignment can be done afterward anyhow, I would think just getting audio multitrack to begin at the same point is your main concern.

| Thanks...
Sorry about posting to such an old thread, and THANKS for responding anyway! Using the MTP in standalone mode is a great idea, supposing that it supports that. ALL functions were controlled from a Macintosh System 9 'Desk Accessory'. Wow, that's a LONG time ago! I had a partially formed thought towards doing this, will have to follow up and check that out! Next adventure; digging into the 'old gear' closet to find the MTP and the associated power adapter! |
