Question What to get next?

Hey All,

I'm looking for some insight into what I should be looking at getting next...I've been steadily building up my studio for the past three years now. I'm doing contemporary folk/pop type productions, typically singer with solo guitar or creating arrangements in Logic and then overdubbing. Anyhow, here is what I've got so far:

PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0 running Logic Pro 7

MOTU 896 Firewire 8 Channel Interface

Dynaudio BM15a on Ultimate Stands

SennheiserHD 650s

Beyer DT 100s

Focusrite Red 8 Mic Pre

Rode K2 Tube Mic

Rode NT5 Condensors

M Audio Radium 71 Keyboard

Plugins: PSP VintageWarmer, PSP MasterQ, Sonalksis SV-315 Compressor

Guitars/samples etc.

Obviously my studio isn't world-class in terms of gear, but it's a solid beginning. Some thoughts I've been having:

Better A/D conversion...replace the MOTU with RME or Apogee stuff or something...

Obviously I've got some way to go in terms of mics! Maybe try and sell the Rode and go for a U87/some Neumann KM184s...

My biggest though so far though is that it might be a good idea to go for a reasonably high end compressor to 'glue' my final mixes together. I know there are lots of choices out there.

Anyhow, I suppose what I am asking is what would make the biggest difference to my productions in the here and now.

Thanks for the help,

Ed

Boy, this is always the burning question what to buy next. :)

Are your recordings coming out great now?? If so you may want to keep what you have for the time being and master what you have. One area you may really look at (if you have not already) is your room sound itself. Your room sound is 75%, or more of your quality of your recordings.
