Thread Starter | Jason Lancaster/ Mayday Parade Vocals?
I'm new to this forum but have been reading it for about a year now. So i thought it was finnally time to post some questions. One of my favorite bands has always been Mayday Parade (new or old), and I've always been amazed how there vocals are so forward yet have almost no or no reverb or delay to my ear. I do know that they are really over compressed. Any tips on how i can get a similair vocal upfrontness (if you know what i mean). I did hear from Kenneth Mount (producer and mixer on there first album) that he cut at 3.15K on guitars when he mixes. I wonder if that frequency may be key. Thoughts? Thanks for replying I've searched this forum multiple times and have never found my answer. Can someone point me in the right direction? (Yes, this is repost)

Thread Starter | What? Nothing? I was considering a De-esser to be the "secret" i was looking for cause now listening back its really only Mayday's A Lesson In Romantics that had this vocal sound on it. Tales told by dead friends used lots of vocal reverb and Anywhere but here uses a decent bit of Delay on the vocals. Could a De-esser be what i've been wondering about? And what settings would one use for this sound or what settings do you use? |

judging by what i hear on youtube there is short delay with a low pass on it probably to make it very unnoticeable. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a slight short room verb or something similar either. Yes very compressed and limited. Part of the loudness is simply how loud it is... its just pushed way up in volume also there is room for it in the mix. Maybe bury the vocal in the mix just a little as start sweeping and cutting freq from guitars / cymbals anything that might get in the way, then boost the vocal back up and it will be even more clear.
