If you alt open the region and MIDI bins on the edit page, the track and group bins open too. And vice versa.

A slightly quicker way to regain edit real estate.

I think it's on the key command card, too. Never mind.

option + apple + [ or ] makes waveforms bigger or smaller

control + click with grabber makes a region start jump to the cursor

if you highlight a region and then press control + left arrow or right arrow, it nudges the AUDIO inside the region by the nudge value. (now THAT'S cool)

I'll try to think of some more

control + apple click on the little waveform triangle on an audio track in the MIX window... makes the track inactive.

also, shift + control + apple + option clicking on that same triangle will make all selected tracks inactive. the four finger salute!

Control + option + apple while clicking on your mixer meter will make your meters WIDE. Cool...

Yeah, I ran across that in the ref. guide the other day and was quite surprised. I thought I knew all of 'em.

Someone showed me to control+command click on the track type symbol in the mix window to inactivate/activate tracks. But then again, I don't know if that's in the manual.

Maybe we should have a thread for PT key commands you may or may not know. That'd help me.

really basic ones

if the sends are set to assigment view, if you apple click any of the assignment points (the little box with the up and down arrows ) it will put all the audio and aux channels to the mini fader view for what ever is assigned to that send letter. handy trick for setting up monitor mixes and setting reverb levels. pretty basic stuff but i dont think i ever saw that one in the short cut guide. also a lot of the ones left out of the short cut guide are listed in menues in protools itself.

i looked for this one because i swear i got it out of the manual but could not find so if its there i appolgize in advance

apple+option+e will double your zoom at the point of courser, works as a toggle first time zooms in second brings the zoom back out to its orignal point. great for checking edits quickly

too of my personal favs are:

"apple-option-click" when selecting the output of the first track... changes the output of all following tracks in a sequential order IE 1,2,3,4,5,6 (this is good for setting up sessions if you have a console)

"option-shift" when selecting the output of a track adds the output to the existing output IE you have multipule outputs from the same track. you can also ad a "shift" to this to add the extra outputs to every channel.

not a shortcut but did you guys know you can write automation at half speed ?

Shift + playback (spacebar for example) will engage 1/2 speed transport and all mixing features still work. Comes in very handy from time to time if you want to do the more tricky stuff realtime.

That's not a key command. I could have sworn I knew this command when the feature was first implemented. I even remember reading it somewhere. Where did it go!?!?!?

Not exactly a key command, but when working with large sessions, I use the locate page to make display sets. I start my locate points at #10 and save the single digits for other other functions.
For example, when working with a control surface with a limited number of faders, I'll have display sets for drums, guitars, vocals, masters, etc. That way, I can access the tracks I need without having to go to the computer. I also have a display that shows all tracks, small and zoomed out for editing. Then the other sets resize the tracks to medium.
I just worked on a TV show where the final track count was in the 90s. Without this trick, the session would have been hard to manage. I had displays for Music, FX, dialog and masters, plus ones for each scene. And the "show all small" for conforms.

In prefs, set the keypad to "classic" mode. (I love calling something from last year "classic") Then with one number, period you are seeing what you need.

I know the groups can perform a similar function, but I find it easier to do this way. Also, the keypad on a control surface can access the displays.

My personal fave.....
Apple >Option >Control click on a plug in setting to add that setting to automation....
then Apple>Control click (just lift middle finger) on the same plug in setting to switch that track's view to that automation parameter.

Saves all that faffing around setting up automation from the menus.

One o fthe most Usefull ones. but only on TDM systems.. Dunno whys its not on LE....

[ Apple + Option + / ] Prints the automation to whatever area you have selected in whatever parameters are armed (in the Apple+Keypad 4 automation window)

i use this all the time when Printing an EQ or Compression setting over Dialogue on a specific track. I have only the plug In button armed in the auto-window, and then i do the command.

also you have to be in auto suspend while doing this. (so you can play over and over and get the Plugin setting right... ) and then after printing the setting to the highlighted area, go back to whatever auto arm etting you normally use.

Big Major Note.

Before you use this.. Zoom al the way out, and highlight the whole track (and then some) and print a Zero'd out and Bypassed Pluging setting to the whole track. this way when your other smaller printed setting come up, it will jup right to them, play as the are supposed to, and then jump backk to bypassed and flat. so you dont get any setting still playing when you really do not want them

More usefull for Post-Production, but can also be good for music in some situations

I use this all the time too, on music and post mixing. It's sort of my basic procedure, tweaking my settings section by section or scene by scene this way, & then riding parameters from that point where needed, using the flip mode on the C24 to put plug in parameters on the touch sensitive faders.
